I have never gotten around to getting life insurance, I'm only 28 and it has never been that high on my priorities until buying a house last year, I also have 2 young children.
I have heard that after being diagnosed with Chiari I may run into problems getting sufficient coverage. Has anyone been successful in getting coverage post diagnosis? I would appreciate any advise you may have.
I got my coverage before diagnosis, but I used to be a licensed agent. There is usually a max amount you can buy without having to declare medical histories like CM. I know we went through Primerica and our cap was 149,999k before you had to do bloodwork or provide major documentation. I say shop around and find out the caps then make a decision. Also Cm is so rare that it is probably not considered a life threatening condition for these companies because they do not know about them.
I agree it is very challenging to get an underwriter to approve a Life Insurance policy if you have a CM or associated disorder diagnosis. Michelle gave excellent advice, and is an expert in the Life Ins. Industry. I can only add ... Term Life Policies are easier to get for people with health concerns and also cheaper. Whole Life Policies are usually more expensive & has more requirements.
Again, I defer to Michelle's knowledge & experience.
