Hi all, I am just wondering if anybody here uses a cane occasionaly? I have been noticing more and more lately that my legs hurt quite bad some days. It seems to be worse the day after moderate physical activity. I like to ride my bike to work (7 miles there and back). I can’t give up on exercise, as I do not want to become any more sedentary. It feels like a rediculous thought at 21, but walking seems to be more difficult and falls more often. All answers are appreciated. Thank you!
Hello Joe V! Before I found out I had chiari I had a year were my hips and knees hurt so bad I went out and bought a cane. I was in my early 30’s at the time so I understand how you feel wondering if it’s ridiculous at age 21. I would say absolutely not if you feel like it will help give you some relief while getting around do it. It took some time to get used to it when going out to stores and such but the relief of the complete body weight weighing on your legs is a relief. You can always try it out and see if it helps I got mine at cvs for $20 and you can return it if you decide it’s not for you. I told my Dr. And she agreed and said if it helps use it. Best wishes to you I hope you get some relief soon take care!
If you can avoid a fall by using it I think you should do it Joe!
Joe V;
You need to protect yourself from falling! I have horrible balance issues and can't walk without my cane. I know you are young but you are also too young to have surgery on broken hips or other bones. You can get some pretty neat canes these days that have you walking in style! I have floral, zodiac, zebra and could have picked out many others. I say if you need a cane do it and do it with style! Don't let yourself stop being active!
Best of Luck!
Lily
Experience here. Use the cane. After several fall I am now in a wheelchair for most of my moving around time due in part to a fall. In the fall I fractured my tailbone and 1 of the vertebrae in my lower back. Bruised and cracked ribs also in the mix. Being 21 one could understand the question at why so young. I am still asking myself that question at 43. Be safe instead of sorry, I learned the hard way.
Thank you all for the replies, I am headed to Walgreens now. I’m just hoping people try to ay least keep their comments to themselves. It’s uncomfortable knowing how many people don’t understand the pain we deal with on daily basis, and I’m not even as bad off as some of the poor souls on here… I’m very sorry that happened to you Michael, I hope everything works out. Again, thank you all for being so great. As a side note, I think we should all try to get together once a year and do something fun, almost like a family reunion! Lol
