Other eye doc, not optomitrist but the other one

Sorry, I can not say the other type of eye doctor let alone spell it. Anyhow went to Dr. Bonhomme (SP) today at UPMC eye clinic. Boy did they put me through the rigors and trials today. Was there for about 4 hours, after Chrissy's OB appointment (more later on that). Anyhow, another Doc B. ( I know I need to find some docs with different last name letters), I was told that with light changes I blink way too much involuntarily, my eyes stop/pause before getting to the target, and both eyes have small tremors in them, and finally I need glasses but she is going to wait until I heal a lot more than I was today. She thinks the first three are all related to the decompression and consequential swelling. The last she says it is natural as we age.

I was glad to hear about the first three, she says it explains my blurry, fuzzy, double vision problems that I have been experiencing. As for the glasses she says I might not need that strong of corrective lenses, she will re-evaluate after healing.

So the reason I am writing this is to say today was a rough day but more importantly get your eyes check often. She said some visual problems can be caused by high intercranial pressure. I know we credit a lot of symptoms and problems to Chiari but we know Chiari is not always the culprit.

As for Chris and her high risk OB that we saw today, she gained some more fluid in the sac she is over 8 (whatever that means) but he discharged her from his care for this pregnancy unless she is found to drop fluid again. He did say that though early they can take the baby and it has a great chance of survival. Also according to the doc she is 32 weeks and 1 day. He continued to say the longer baby is in the better she will do but it is safe if something happened. I'll keep you updated on this as much as I can, but it very veRY VERY similar to how Emma was born - so to my Chiari family here you may be becoming aunts and uncles really soon.

I know it is a buried thread but them name will be Alyssa Rose Salasky, family likes it, parents like it and potential godparents like it..so it is win-win-win.

Take care my friends as I am calling it a night in a few more minutes and them hitting the sack. It has been a long day without much rest.

Hey Michael, I went to the NL this week and she told me that my eyes were not working just the way they should and told me to get my eyes checked out by my eye doctor. She specifically told me to ask them to check for PAPILLEDEMA. Here is the explaination of it: Papilledema is the swelling of the optic nerve as it enters the back of the eye due to raised intracranial pressure. So I'm going to make an appointment and have that checked out. I have a really hard time reading now because I can't keep my place, the words seem to move!

I just wanted to add that bit of information for people when and if they go to the eye doctor. Opthalmologist is the medical doctor that checks your eyes.

Sending good thoughts about the baby and hope she stays in as long as she can! It's a great name!

Michael.

I am so glad that is over for you and you had such a thurough exam. What a week you have had. I know you didn't really have a choice but I don't know how you did it. You are such a trooper and such a good husband and father. I hope now that SSD has come through and the baby and your wife are safe that you can take a deep breath and relax a little and take care of yourself. What good news about your wife's fluid coming back and you chose a beautiful name for what will be a beautiful gift and addition to your family. I have baby envy. I loved having my babies. It's a magical thing. I hope you get a chance to breath and relax.
