Cervical injections (not occipital nerve blocks)

Has anyone had cervical injections (not occipital nerve blocks)? Tell me the good, the bad and the ugly....

Hi Susan,

I have had many. All done under radiology & they put them exactly in the right place & they even give you a picture of the actual injection. & they do not even hurt that bad and I have had a rebuilt C Spine & always have herniated discs & pinched nerves & other problems. They are a walk in the park in relation to everything I have been through medically. I don't personally have anything at all to say bad about them. I do go to a Spine Ctr to get my injections. They have helped me incredibly. I have also had pressure point injections but they are just into the muscle & feel like a bee sting.

I totally agree !!!! It sounds like you have found the right place. I am so happy for you .

before my MRI showed C1M, i had three cervical injections..... the first injection last only two weeks.......the second injection allowed me to be more active for about nine weeks........my last injection was about a month ago (i was just diagnosed with C1M last week) and that injection I feel made things worse, constant neck pain that is worse than usual, and more intense headaches.......gonna try a occipital nerve block in two weeks, then if that does not relieve the symptoms, I get a neurosurgeon referral.

Hope this helps!

What kind of specialist is doing your Occipital Nerve Block & have they told you what they hope to achieve?

My neurologist set up the occipital nerve block with an anesthesiologist......neurologist said this will end all pain in my neck and head, it will be a permanent solution....... ok, I may be new to all of this, but what I do know is that the effects of nerve blocks are different for everyone....... no to optimistic because my neurologist was very dismissive about the C1M, and the need for a CSF flow study, after the MRI report suggested it. I contacted Mayfield Clinic yesterday, and they are willing to look at my reports, films, etc...so I did the intake on the phone with them.

TracyZ, my pain specialist who had previously done the cervical blocks also did the bilateral occipital blocks.....and it did not relieve my symptoms as the NL said it would...... i was then sent to a 2nd NS who said everyone else had misread the MRI & CSF Flow Study, and that I do not have Chiari at all.......but set me up for a lumbar puncture to measure the pressure of the spinal fluid, which he said showed nothing. I've given up and have accepted the fact that i will have to live in pain forever. The NS & NL that i have seen, are not educated enough for Chiari, and my insurance won't let me go out of network to see a true specialists, and the Mayfield Clinic will not accept me as self-pay because i have insurance, even though they won't accept it.
