What to do now

My daughter is doing better after her surgery last month but the headaches and neck pain are still there. She went in for her follow-up on the 7th of this month. She goes back in to see the dr in July they want another MRI before she sees the dr again. I am worried that the surgery was not successful. What would I do then?

Hi...

So sorry your daughter is having pain....She is still healing...I am hoping that she is still having pain from the surgery and that the pain will get better in time...that was the case for me...took a while for me to feel the positive results...I had surgery in 08...I think it took a good 3 mths for the neck to feel better...

Keep us posted.

Hi....

I totally agree with Lori. Your daughter is still recovering. My NS told me it takes 18 months just for the bones and connective tissue to heal. I am so sorry she is in pain. Did they send her home on pain medication? It is very hard when your child is not feeling well and you feel like there is nothing you can do. Please know you can come here anytime and ask anything. We honestly understand. It's also important that you are taking care of yourself. As Mothers we always put ourselves last, but you have to be healthy & mentally clear to care for your daughter.

I will be praying for your whole family,

Tracy Z.

Sorry to hear your daughter is in pain. I agree with Lori and Tracy. It can take a couple of month due to your daughter is still recovering. My daughter first surgery it took about 3 month for her pain in the neck to go away and about 6 month for her to have less headaches. Her second surgery it took a year with therapy for her neck pain and 3 month for the headaches. Everybody heals differently. I know my daughter was given pain medcine and muscle relaxer that seemed to help her. Keep us posted.

They gave her pain meds but she cant take them and go to school. She takes ibuprofen while at school but it dont help. She has missed so much school already. I dont know what else to do. If she misses anymore school she will have to repeat the 9th grade.

yes recovery can take some time, perhaps while she is in school you can give her something a bit stronger an hour before the start of school, then if she needs other meds she can take the ibuprofen in school- also might i suggest she get an ice pack from the nurse or perhaps you get one(or two) of those shoulder packs and she take it to the nurses office and they refirdgerate them for her so when she needs them they are available. they may help ease the pain for her and help her through the day and make the day more bareable...

I would suggest though to try the packs at home first, for some ice (cold) packs feel good while for others heat packs feels good

these are the sort of the sort of things iam talking about http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=10573050&RN=1199&
