Wet ears? Clear fluid in ears?

My 11 y/o daughter has been saying her ears sometimes felt wet. I thought this was her description of the Chiari ear feeling. This morning she woke up and said I hate this and went and got a qtip. She swiped it around her left ear and handed it to me. It was wet with clear fluid. She has not been in water since Thursday.

The fluid did not continue. She says it is only in the mornings. Interestingly, she did not wake with head pain this morning and is having a pretty good day staying upright.

I’m a little freaked out it could be CSF fluid. She had an lumbar puncture on 12/10 and had a normal opening pressure of 19.4.

Anyone else have this?

I have this. And balance loss because of it. They have yet to discover why Good luck

I have this also. 5 months post-op. When I cry it happens more.

Yes, I think it could be CSF. I would take her in because if CSF is gaining access to her ears, then any bacteria on the outside could gain access to her spinal cord and brain. Hate to sound ten alarm, especially if she had this for a while, but why take a chance. So sorry.

That was my first thought. I’m trying to decide my best choice to take her to. We are 3 1/2 weeks out from our appointment with Dr. Frim. Local pediatrician and NS do not believe in Chiari causing problems. They blow everything off.

I get clear fluid in my ears a LOT. Especially, as someone said above, when I cry. But also at other random times. Sometimes I can feel it pulsing into the ear canal like a squirt gun going off deep in my year. (Sorry for the visual :stuck_out_tongue: ) it’s different for me than the chiari fullness in the ear though… Not sure if both or either are truly related and drs even my chiari NS just blows me off about it or tries to send me to a EYes ears and throat specialist. It’s like my ears are crying. Glad your daughter is having some good days! I had a big battle with chiari around her age then went into a remission type phase for nearly 20years before it came back again. If your really scared have it checked until they can 100% say it’s ok. Good Luck!

I had small amounts of fluid in my ears after surgery. My surgeon (who’s amazing) did not think it was a CSF leak. 4 weeks after surgery I ended up with a leak. I do think the fluid had to do with the leak because I have t had it since. I guess I’ll never know for sure. ??? Good Luck! And don’t be worried about a leak - it can be fixed… Technology is amazing!!!
