Tips and tricks to ease neck, base skull pain?

Good morning everyone and Happy Holidays!!

My neck pain is out of control. I now have pain radiating down my spine and right shoulder/arm. I have a very high pain threshold and have been able to “manage” it with tylenol, ibuprofin and heat packs. It is now at a point that has me on the verge of tears throughout the day! I have tried every pillow in my house multiple times and absolutely dread going to bed because I know how much pain I will be in when I wake up. I feel like I can’t hold my head up. Does anyone have any advice for anything that might have helped ease your neck pain? The pain is also in the base of my skull. Sometimes that area is a dull but nagging aching pain, other times sharp. But the neck pain for me is probably at a 9 now…please help me find some relief!!!

Thanks for your time and I hope despite all our discomfort everyone is looking forward to the holidays

just a thought- may be completely useless. I get occipital pain and have a big indention where I had a C1 laminectomy. What helps with both A LITTLE BIT is to wear my hair in a ponytail and pull it super tight. That pulls the skin out of the hole where my C1 laminectomy was and somehow eases the occipital pain a bit too. I know that's not much for what you're going through, but wanted you to know where at least here for moral support. Blessings, Maggie

Amanda, I’m so sorry your neck is hurting so bad. Everything that Emmaline said is what I would say too. It took a couple of days before I felt a difference with the arnica gel, but now I use it daily. I take a magnesium supplement too. Do you carry your shoulders in a raised up/ shrug position? Try to relax them down. I hope you find something to help soon,
Jenn

Thanks Amanda, for asking that question. I am also suffering with the same problem and all the muscle relaxers that I have tried are not working. I am going to look for it.

I know all too well the pain you are describing. The only thing that eases the pain for me is a cervical collar. (I'm assuming you're post op?)

The doctors where I'm from in South Carolina have no clue about Chiari Malformation so they are no help whatsoever. The just want to mask the pain whereas I want the pain GONE.

I HAVE SAID THIS BEFORE, SO I APOLOGIZE TO THE PPL HERE WHO HAVE HEARD THIS BEFORE, BUT...

No one understands the signs, symptoms, pain, etc. that Chiari Malformation sufferers go thru unless you have Chiari Malformation too. It sounds crazy but it's true. (Well, I'm sure there are a few exceptions.)
