My question is for all you guys who’ve had any kind of decompression, neck, back surgery. How long did it take for your incision to heal and not be tender? Also, how did you personally get comfortable enough to sleep? ((I am almost 30 days post op. My site is healed but still tender. I can’t sleep more than like 2 hours without getting incredibly uncomfortable-if i can fall asleep at all. I’m getting maybe 5 hours of sleep. That’s with doing things daytime and no or only one short nap. I’m exhausted. I tried a body pillow which helps a little.))
Becky, sorry you having trouble sleeping. Do you have a racing heart beat at night? Wondering if that could be interrupting sleep more than the incision pain? I developed POTS after surgery and would lay in bed for hours before falling asleep … Just a thought.

Jenn, I will have to pay a little more attention to my heart beat at night. I guess I never gave it much thought. I can HEAR my heartbeat so I will pay attention tonight. I see my NS Tuesday so hopefully I can see by then!! :D Thanks!!!
The back of my head stayed tender for a good long while even after the incision healed. Like a few months. I tend to sleep on my side which obviously helped a lot as no direct pressure was on the incision. You may also try experimenting with various pillows. I have one of those cheesy as seen on TV Sobakawa cloud pillows and I love it! lol
Hello
Once my incision had all healed up, I still had a lot of incisional pain with some very tender spots that made me want to sing out loud with that zap of pain. I was showed how to do scar massage lightly with my fingers then worked up to more pressure and harder surfaces. I was quickly able to sleep without pain to my head or any sensitivity if I bumped it on the couch arm rest. Good luck in finding your solutions!
I hope sp too!! Mine has not, I actually had an MRI of my auditory canal because the NL gave me THAT look when I said I hear my heartbeat in my ear... They did some vibration thing and pressed it on my jaw and neck. When they did it on that side, I almost came off the table!

I hate hearing my heart beat. Its so creepy. Its one of the things I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see disappear after surgery - or at least after I'm done healing.
