Silly question

Is it safe to get massages? My neck hurts all the time & my husband used to always massage my neck. Ever since I found out about having Chiari I am afraid to let him touch it. I know it is probably a silly question. Does anyone know the answer?

Becki,

This is not a silly question:) From my understanding…We can have massages, but we need to be careful. NO deep tissue massages! We also have to be VERY careful around our necks. So, a gentle massage should be ok, but you should still check with your doctor first.

Crystal

Not silly, I always wondered that too! When my husband massages the back of head neck area it feels amazing but than the next day I'm in even worse pain. Crystal is right no deep tissue massages. That is something I have been bad about since I was diagnosed.

deep tissue massages are a no no--- gentle massages are at your own risk BE CAREFUL!...

i made the mistake by going to PT and letting the guy touch/pressed a little harder then a touch but not super hard-- my neck. (and thats all he did was touch pressed fingers on either side of cervical spine)

ever since i dont let ANYONE ever touch my neck i dont care how innocent it is...

Absoleutly....You have gotten some wonderful advice !!!! I used to love having my head massaged & can't anymore unless the masseuse is very careful. Enjoy !!!!

Hi...

You already got good advice from our friends who replied b4 me....just wanted to see if you are ok and how you are doin'??

Keep us posted!!!!

Peace,

Lori

PS: I am over 3 yrs post op from decompression...and I do get DEEp muscule massages ..but they are done by a doctor..and NOT near the head.

Miss Becki....ask away...no question is silly!!! Glad you are here!

unfortunately you are correct about the rides, sorry- chiari sure sucks sometimes doesnt it!

I miss the thrill rides I cant do them anymore.. pouts and the deep tissue massages but a good sub is a good pedi... lol

I’m sorry to say you’re correct…NO thrill rides. I love rollercoasters, but now they are a thing of the past. I even went Skydiving in Hawaii! I’m glad that I did those things when I could, but now it’s not worth making me feel worse than I already do. Chiari is definitely a life changer!

I do get a regular message once a month. My massage therapist does a light to medium pressure message. But when I found out I had chiari, she did her research and consulted with a NL and changed the way she did messages with me to help me. But if in anyway it is painful or bothersome, she stops and she does not continue. She will move onto the next body part. But I will tell you Polarity is a good message.
