Scalp numbness after surgery

Keep meaning to ask this: has anyone else experienced any scalp numbness after decompression surgery?

From the left of my incision all the way to my ear and about an inch from my hairline at eyebrow height and all the way down, my scalp is completely numb. But, only on the left side...

It is a small price to pay for how good i have been feeling, but sometimes it feels so creepy! :-)

It sounds like one of your occipital nerves was cut/damaged. I would call your dr and let them know.

I’ve had a few random spots on my scalp here and there. The nurse said it was normal after chiari surgery and should go away as I heal.

I had the numbness as well, on just the left side too. I am about 6 weeks post op and for me it has definitely improved. It was a weird and definitely an uncomfortable feeling.

I’m so glad you posted this! The left side of my scalp is numb also. It’s constant, with some shooting pain every once in a while. I’m about 8 weeks post-op and it is better than it was in the beginning, but definitely not normal! I’m going to ask my NS next time I speak to him…I will let you know if there is anything you need to be concerned about

I had decompression surgery in '06 and the left side of my scar is still numb. Never spread out to my head, though.
