PT & pain meds

Alright all you beautiful Chiarians, I need your guidance. First, I wanna say that since I joined this support group & read your stories, I determined you are all like beautiful snowflakes. All different, all unique. Just thought I'd share that thought, random, I know!

Now then, down to business. My beautiful snowflake, Chris, will be 8 weeks post-op on 3/17. We go to the NS on the 15th, and I want to get a prescription for physical therapy.... thoughts? I'd also like opinions on going to a pain doctor. Chris is currently taking Vicodin 750's and I just got him a script for Flexeril 10mg. He isn't impressed with either drug, and if he isn't happy.... well, I'm not happy. I want him as comfortable as he possibly can be. Suggestions?

HI THERE:

You are a wonderful advocate for Chris and I am sure he totally agrees!!!

Chris' s other option..and I think that this may be a good route to try 1st......I see a Physiatrist.....He is a rehab/pain doctor.....He does deep massage, using Lidocanine as well as he can prescribe meds where PT's cannot.....This type of doctor deals with the whole person and is hooked up with PT's when that time comes..

My thinking is ...just my 3 cents..start off with this kind of doctor...consultation....get assessed ....get a tx plan in place...once the doctor does his thing..he can send Chris off to PT and oversee it . This kind of doctor can do a lot..such as EMGs....ultra sounds, TENS Units...forgot to ask if Chris ever tried one.

In My neck of th e woods there is only one Physiatrist in the area...you may need to drive a bit....but I am in a village , for real..LOL so..you may have one closer....look under PAIN MANAGEMENT in yellow pages.

Peace,

Lori

I am on flexeril and it helps some time i just dont like taking it when i have to work cause it makes me sleepy. My doctor wont give me anything else except for migraine medicine and most of the time that dont work at least he havent any that works as of yet. when i am seen at the hospital they always send me home wit percocets and they seem to help to but i really dont like taking a bunch of pain medicine i just try to deal with the pain which is very hard todo at times but by trusting in god and keeping the faith anything is possible.

Hi Carrie,

You are definitely an Angel, God sent to this Discussion Group !!! I don't know what we would do without you. I would definitely get Chris to a pain management dr. Vicodin is like taking aspirin. Then see if they recommend PT. My NS did not want me doing any PT. I have read where many Chiarians do go to PT. Is Chris having any issues other than his head and neck? Pain Managment dr.'s usually are affiliated with a rehab center, that has PT, OT, Speech Therapy & psychologists.I had a psychologist that specialized in hypnotherapy for pain mgmt. All kinds of good specialists. Mine even has a warm pool that is great for walking in. I can't swim anymore because of my neck, but it's Arthritis Assoc approved. It feels great & helps me with balance & exercise.
