I'm almost 6 months post op and i believe that i might have some ingrown hairs along the scar. Has anyone had this? the bad news is i can't stop picking at it and now i fear i might have caused it to get a little bigger and slightly irritated. i heard that the body can reject internal stitches. My husband says it looks like an ingrown hair. My NS is in Colorado, so i can't just pop into his office since i live in Hawaii. Any advice or things to look for if it's an ingrown hair and what else it could be?
My wife dug them out and plucked them for me (once the car had healed.) She would put neosporin and tea tree oil on the spot, and I avoided infection. She says it's what they do for dogs at the animal clinic she works at. They eventually stopped coming back once the folicle died. Abby is right though, and it can get infected, so be careful and do see a GP if you are not comfortable with someone using a needle and tweezers on the scar who is not a professional.
I got little blisters which sometimes itched from the hairs contained in the scar growing out . They were exactly like ingrown hairs. They eventually work their way out but I had them for a long time off and on. Sometimes I would bring my hand away and it would be wet from the blisters popping. I thought they might be stitches too but they were just the deeper hairs working their way out. If it's bothering you. I would take a little neosporin mixed with a tiny bit of some kind of no fragrance oil like olive, coconut, shea butter or argon. Just a few drops mix it up with a tooth pick and dab it on where it is irritated. The neosporin will take care of any germs from picking at it and the oil will soften it up so the hair moves through the scar eisier.
