Post-op Pain Question

What was the pain like with your scalp post surgery? My scalp is so tender on most of my head and at times it literally hurts to touch my hair. It's not unbearable, but it seems weird to be in pain over 6 inches away from my incision or on top of my head. Just wondering if this is a weird thing for just me or have many of you experienced this.

I never had been tender headed but for a while after surgery it seemed that anything, even the wind blowing my hair, was difficult for me to take. Luckily it didn't last. I am back to being as tough headed as ever.

There is a wonderful Homeopathic remedy you can take to speed up healing. It's worked like a miracle for me and my family. It's called Arnica and it's sold in most health food stores or online from Bioron. They are tiny sugar pellets with the Arnica in them. You put them under your tongue several times a day and it spurs your bodies own healing properties to speed up. It may help with your scalp pain. They also make Arnica cream and ointment that you can use directly on any area that is sore or healing. You can also take a few doses the day before surgery to help your body through surgery. It cuts down on swelling and bleeding. I know that Homeopathy gets a bad rap by some but I have used it for 16 years and it really works.

How lond did the soreness/tenderness last ? I’m 9 days post op

Thank you. I’m going to ask my NS tomorrow what he thinks about amica cream.

Hi Emmaline

I am ordering Arnica cream today. I got my stitches our today and the NS said he is please on how well I''m healing. Today, has been my best day since surgery; My headaches are not that severe and I have a lot of rotation in my neck.

Thanks a bunch for your encouragement

TeJa, I couldn't lay on the back of my head until 6 mos post op. If I was laying down, I'd have to be on my side or I would get an awful headache. Besides the soreness! It wears off differently for everyone. Hang in there.

I also swear by Arnica cream or gel. It really helps. I still use it on my neck almost daily.

Hi Beeba.

I did mention to Dr. Weingart about the cream. He never heard of it. He basically didn't have any opinion of it. However, he did recommend vitamin E.

I can probably answer for you. If it works he will say go ahead and try it but unless you have had surgery this one is hard to believe. I swear by it for my neck.

My daughter had the same thing. A bit off to one side of her head, not along the incision site. Still tender months later but VERY slowly getting better.

Emmaline, your right because the NS definitely showed no interest.

i have the same thing. it hurts to touch even my hair. i am 17 days post op. so i think it is fairly normal.

Lesley, I’m glad it’s not me. I’m experiencing the same thing.

However, the tenderness and soreness to my head and the migraines are starting to get better. I noticed it Wednesday and each day it has been getting better. Yesterday I only took one Tylenol and today I did not use any. Unbelievable! Don’t get me wrong I still have some pain but its not as serve as it was before, and I’m 11 days post-doc. So there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
