Neck pain

Hi,

Today I am six weeks post-op. I had posterior fossa decompression, laminectomy and cauterization of the cerebellar tonsils. I've been doing extremely well; except for the past five days. I will admit, I'm up and around and doing much more than the previous weeks. I'm thinking it's probably a "normal" soreness that I'm hoping will go away in time. Has anyone else had this occur?

Yes! My pain levels are up for a week, then way down for a week. The poor nurse at the chiari institute has put in some hard time convincing me that it will take many months for the pain to subside on a permanent basis. I think you should rest ( do nothing but lay down or sit on the couch as much as you possibly can). Feel better Lori!

Neck pain is very normal for a post surgical Chiarian. I would recommend you try Arnica. It is a Natural Remedy. It doesn't interfere with any medications. It is made from a mountain daisy and has been used since the 1500's. I use Arnicare from Walgreen's. It's a gel and honestly incredible. I have had my C Spine rebuilt when I had my CM surgeries and have seen a pain specialist since early 2000. When I was first told about Arnica I thought after every medication and therapy I have tried how will this possibly help. I am the first to say I am so happy I was wrong. I use it three times a day. It odorless and not sticky or tacky. it takes a few days to take the full effect. There are differing medical studies on it's effectiveness, but I promise after everything I have been through medically and the money I have and do spend on Medications. This $10-$12 gel helps as well and better than most medications without any side effects. Is does come in creams, ointments pills, pellets. I just never would have thought it would have been so incredible. Also check out our Natural Healing Group. There is a lot of discussion about Arnica. You can also send Emmaline a message and she is very knowledgeable about Natural Remedies.

You may also want to talk to your NS or whoever is doing your follow up care about PT. I have read where it has helped many Members with neck pain.

Tracy,

Thank you so much! Is Arnica an ingredient in Bio-Freeze?

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm feeling so much better. I'm actually starting to feel like a "normal" person again. It's been so long since I was pain free, I'd forgotten what it was like. My surgeon told me it will take a good year to feel completely better. I'm being patient and listening to my body. In the past, I wasn't so good at listening but this surgery is serious enough, I took it to heart when he told me to pace myself.
