Is there anything special to take to the hospital?

Is there anything special to be done before or after surgery? Anything special to take?

make some "frezzer meals" that way after you get home you won't have to cook

if you have a favorite pair of slippers or a robe, thats a good thing to take

and your pillow too if you want

after surgery LET OTHERS HELP YOU!!!!!! This is a crucial part of healing....'

thats all I got right now, I'm sure someone else will chime in and have other or better suggestions!

Good Luck and Take Care

Jen

I would take a pair of pajama pants or sweats. After my surgery I had to go to Occupational Therapy and show them I could do normal everday tasks. Like: get a glass of water, walk up & down four steps, show I could dress myself, brush my teeth. act like I was taking a shower...things like that. I would also make sure they give you a prescription for a stool softener or laxative. The strong pain meds affect your bowels. Also, I had no idea that we use our neck muscles doing everything. You may have to get used to doing things differently, so you don't hurt your neck. ...You are such a great person.....Please don't get discouraged. Your body will need time to heal. Please let us know how you are doing !!!

I will be praying for you Destini,

Tracy

thank you guys so much!. I will keep you posted

hugs

i would bring some thing 2 relieve stress. for the trip home have a neck brace. less strain on your neck. any time i went out i would wear it for support. some times i were it at home as well just to give the muscles a brake.

Good Luck

Chris

Definitley your own pillow,a robe and slippers that aren't slippery :o)

I also wish I would have taken an eye cover (you know those things that cover your eyes and strap around your head?)

Other than going to the bathroom and trying to take little walks here and there i was in bed the whole 5 days in the hospital.

Best of luck! Let us know when how it went once you feel up to it! You're in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi I am here for the first time need to talk to some one who had surgery

Hi Destini......

I am pretty sure everyone who replied b4 got it all......I just have 1 thing to add...maybe someone did mention it above and I didn't see it!!LOL

Bring facial and baby wipes....Lord only knows where those hospital wash clothes have been!!!

How are you feeling today????

Peace,

Lori

thank you guys, I am nervous and scared it might be next week waiting for approval from insurance but I think I am not going to do it…I dnk

DON"T FORGET THE WIPES!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

oh yeah.....life savers or something to suck on if mouth is dry.

I'm like all of these ladies! I had to take my own pjs and socks, hospital gowns are not comfortable. I also brought my own soap to help me feel better when i did get up the next day to wash up. And let everyone help that will. I am such an independent person and didn't want anyone to really do anything for me, and i regret it. I am so worn out trying to hard, if your body says rest, rest don't over do it. Now im resting and feeling a whole lot better. It just takes time it won't be overnight like i thought it would be. Good luck and hope everything turns out ok for you!

Des are def with u...im considering doin mines after my bday in may..im very centimental so for a stay in the hospital i wud bring pics of fams and frens..prolly my netbook to stay connected to ery1..a good book may b gud if ur not sply or watchin the tv..comfy clothes to go home in and mayb sum type of comfort snacks..i wud want sum1 there wit me the whole time which im sure wud b my mom hopefully she dont stress me on the DO's n DONT's...she great for that :(...im excited and scared for u but this is the ansa to a better way of livin then with this fren of ours..u are in my prayers

I just like to add. Make sure your pjs and clothes button in the front because you do not want to put anything over your head, according to my daughter it hurts to bad. It was easier just wear shirts that button in the front. I would take a sippy cup so you can drink. Even though they have straws you can use, my daughter would spill it all over her since she could not bend her head down and sitting straight up after surgery hurt to much. I got her sippy cup the next day she could drink and not take a bath the same time. Good luck and praying for you.

I had my surgery in OCT and make sure to bring slippers and loose clothes for the ride home. I had. 2 hour ride home so they gave me pain meds for the ride home slept the whole way. Make sure you have th give you about a months worth of pain meds and muscle relaxers. Make sure and try to walk as much as possible do neck exercises. I will be praying for you.
