Essential Oils

Has anyone tried essential oils for pain and migraines? I am at a dead end and every one keeps suggesting essential oils, but I'm not sure. Would love to hear your experiences with essential oils.

Hi Abbey,

I have had the same question. I know a woman who controls her children's seizures with Essential oils but I don't know anymore than that. I use peppermint oil on the back of my neck and it does reduce the pain. I use proactively it when I know I will be sitting for a while and I might get a headache.

I have been having dermatitis for several years new, so I tried lavender to my face, neck and scalp. Guess what? It is helping clear my skin up and reducing head pain, helping with anxiety and a few more things.
Plus me and our house smells like a field of lavender. I am going to try it tonight on my heel spur and see how that works after a few days.

Nervous System: Lavender essential oil has a calming scent, making it an excellent tonic for the nerves. Therefore, it helps in treating migraines, headaches, anxiety, depression, nervous tension and emotional stress.

Skin Care: The health benefits of lavender oil for the skin can be attributed to its antiseptic and antifungal properties. It is used to treat various skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, psoriasis, and other inflammations. It heals wounds, cuts, burns, and sunburns rapidly as it aids in the formation of scar tissues. Lavender oil is added to chamomile to treat eczema.

Blood Circulation: Lavender essential oil is also good for improving blood circulation. It lowers blood pressure and is used for hypertension.

Other health benefits of lavender essential oil include its ability to treat leucorrhoea. It is also effective against insect bites. The oil is also used to repel mosquitoes and moths. You will find many mosquito repellents containing lavender oil as one of the ingredients.

I tried lavender a couple of times but unfortunately my husband is highly allergic to most scents, so is there are any other oils with limited smell? Any one with ideas?.:expressionless:

Omega 3s, massages, fever few teas, peppermint tea, flaxseeds, basal, magnesium, b vitamins, ice packs, resting,
Darken room, there are a lot of others too. Research migraines natural treatments.
Hope this helps.

I have been putting peppermint essential oil directly on neck and back of head all year and it is great pain reliever! better than most prescriptions.

Thanks for the ideas. But curious if I use peppermint tea bags instead of oils, will it do the same?! I know the ice packs work

I use peppermint essential oil a lot to relieve pain. I put it on the back of my neck and at my hairline on my forehead. I’ve found that peppermint candy made with real peppermint oil also works(can be homemade) so I imagine tea would as well. Caffeine also helps my head aches. I know that SOME essential oils can be put in capsules and taken internally which might be helpful for the person whose husband is allergic to scents.

for me it has to be the essential oil on my neck for my neck pain–it works better than biofreeze, icy hot or lidocaine…but downside is everyone around me does get the aroma. thankfully most people say they like it…I have decided to just be selfish on this one, if folks could smoke cigarettes in the office up til the '80s I figure they can put up with a little essential oil that helps keep me a tad saner

it also works better than lidocaine or ketamine patch/cream for me. I have a hard time with taking supplements and medicines, my body seems to have hard time breaking them down.
