Chest pain

Does anyone else have chest pain? Costrochondritis?

I have chest pain almost everyday. No surgery yet, diagnosed about one year ago. I’ve been to the cardiologist and GI doctor in the last year with clean results. I’ve been to the ER about a dozen times over the last few years with the chest pain and thankfully it’s never heart related. But each time it’s very worrisome, and most of the time I just wait for it to pass. Can last several hours and even days.

I have much experience with chest pain and chiari. My neurosurgeon has stated that there is no proof or correlation between chest pain and chiari; however, after my first operation, my chest pain went away, then came back full force with all of my symptoms 6 months later. After my second operation, it has gone away again, and I rarely have it. Whether it was a direct result of the chiari, or some weird side affect, it did in fact appear to be related in my particular case.

Hope this helps in some way.

Yes I do had it for many years. It really hurts. How are you managing it.

Those of you that are suffering from this pain, could you describe it? My daughter has been complaining of chest pain and I didn't even think that it might be related to her Chiari. I have Chiari as well but don't have this symptom, thank goodness.

Sure. I'm not sure how much help this will be, because my pain did differ on occasion; however, it was usually on the left side of my chest, around where my heart is. They were sharp pains that could remain anywhere from 5 minutes to a few hours. They were intermittent, but at a somewhat constant interval. I was also checked by numerous other doctors which yielded no results. My chest pain ended with my decompression surgeries.

Like I stated above, there are no real links between chiari and chest pain that have been noted. That said, my case points that whether direct or indirect, it was related.

Best of luck to you and your daughter .

First the leftside of my ribcage is higher than the rightside and I also have petcus evacum my chest

Is a bit sunken in. But it can feel like a heartattack it can last s good long time. If you push on your daughters

chest and you can reproduce the pain it is not the heart. Mine is titize syndrome similar to costiocondrites I see a

dr of osteopath he moves the ribs it seems to help. Who knows it may be all related.

what do you for her pain? Hope she feeld better.

Thanks for the information, just wondering. This is all new and sooo many symptoms at times. Basically she can not take Tylenol or ibuprofen as she has meds that these interefere with them.i will look up that syndrome Ty

I was diagnosed with costochondritis 7 or 8 years ago. I was just recently diagnosed with CM, so no connection has ever been made between the two. The best thing you can do for costochondritis is apply heat or ice (whichever works best for her) and take naproxen regularly (if she’s not allergic).

There is so little info out there about CM that no one really knows it’s full effects on the body. Knowing the nervous system and how it operates, I would think that there is no way CM could be responsible for things like this (and I have SEVERAL connective tissue problems) UNLESS there is a decrease in csf flow or a syrinx.

Btw. Costochondritis comes and goes. It is due to inflammation locally. Everyone’s triggers are different. You can go for years without the pain and then you move wrong and it is back. It is cyclical and you have to know your triggers.

Does anyone know have presure on your ribscage and center of your chest?

Costochondritis is very common in preteen and young teen girls. Its estimated that at least 30% of all children experience at one time or another. Its especially common during puberty. While usually it is in the front it is not uncommon to occur where the ribs connect with the spine as well. With young teen girls especially it is important to get it checked out because there is another condition called mitral valve prolapse that is also common that can be similar. While MVP its not generally not serious and most grow out of it, it is important to know about.

The most effective treatment is a heating pad and ice pack one in front one in back and alternate. For kids stretching and deep breathing is important. Adults can benefit greatly from the "baked Alska treatment as well. If the situation becomes chronic injections in the intercostal space can provide fairly long term relief.

For costo chiropractic is not recommended.

Tietze syndrome is accompanied by a localized swelling at the painful area (the junction of the ribs and breastbone). Most commonly it is the first rib and collarbone. Chiropractic does not treat the condition and may actually aggravate it if too aggresive., but is fairly successful at reducing pain levels by stimulating natural lubrication of the joint.

I've always had this...more so after surgery, for some crazy reason...right now in fact, it feels like a tight band around the bottom of my ribcage. I also have sharp "ice pick" type pains under my left collarbone...I'm sure there's some other condition name for it, but I believe they are both related. NS said they are common for chiari patients but never directly addressed them. I take Aleve daily for them.

Suri yes I do
