I found one chiropractor in my city that states she does atlas orthogonal on her website (along with a long list of other things) I get the impression that she doesn’t soecialize in this yet may be knowledgeable. I don’t know what she knows about chiari. I know I’m sounding like I don’t have faith in her…we go thru a lot don’t we -I’m really trying to have hope! Lol I’m trying to learn as much as I can to be sure she is competent enough to treat chiari. Can someone who has tried atlas orthogonal share with me what to expect? Do I need x Rays prior to seeing chiro? Can it all be done at chiro office? Any research I should share regarding atlas and chiari if she’s willing to learn with me? Is atlas orthogonal only helpful when chiari is caused by CCI? Thanks in advance!
Nikki,
I have not tried Atlas Orthogonal tx., but I too would be interested in hearing from anyone who has. It is so exciting to read about new studies with the spine, as it relates to Chiari.
Mandy: thank you for all the information. I read the attachment you listed regarding trauma/whiplash. Very interesting!
I searched in Anchorage, to see if there is a DC that performs AO, and there is one listed, but I have not heard of the Dr. I'll will have to do some research.
Mandy thank you for your research! I can see she is not on the list, which makes me question how knowledgeable she is. Hmmm. Maybe I will make an appt to talk with her and see how it goes.
Nykki–I have been dealing with my SX’s since my head injury in January 2008. I had the usual Chiari SX’s. After tests/meds to R/O everything ELSE under the sun–initially DX’d with Post-Concussion Syndrome. FF to October 2014, friends suggested I see their chiropractor. I was desperate for relief of this pain. 1st 2 visits, she didn’t touch my neck. 3rd visit she cracked my neck & hammered on my neck & back with a meat tenderizer kinda instrument. I made her stop & left in worse pain. Two days later I saw a new Neuro who told me that had not been a good idea.
My 2nd Neuro had asked me if anyone had ever told me I had Chiari (9/08). Unfortunately, she closed her practice & I was unable to follow up with anyone who wanted to go w/her DX.
I am convinced my new Neuro was right–I may have had PCS for a year or my fall “woke up” the Chiari. Either way, I went downhill immediately after that last chiropractor appt in early November.
PLEASE—check with a Neuro before trying chiropractic.
