I’m 5 days out of surgery and think I’m doing ok but I was also trying to get sick before surgery. I think all the antibiotics they gave me while I was in the hospital definitely helped but now of course I am trying to cough up all the crap from being sick. As you all know to well coughing and this surgery do not mix. I am sleeping st right up in a chair while lying my head from side to side. Al so using a bulb syringe to remove some of the congestion before it gets to my lungs. Did anyone else have these problems? I feel like I am literally sleeping all the time except to take pain meds. I do get up and walk a lap or 2 inside the house as well. Trying to do a few neck stretches. Does all this sound norm? I’m so thankful to have you guys to talk to!!!
Walking is good if you can do so safley. It helps clear the lungs, gets the bowels working and actually helps with pain and swelling. Just keep plugging.
Many docs recommend you don't skip pain meds. if you are ready to come off them cut back the dose if able. fewer pills but on time. If you wait jntil you hurt, you will end up in a fog because it takes way more meds to get under control. Hang in there things get better really quick when it starts
Hi Rebecca,
I'm sure the other members will be glad to offer an idea, but I just wanted to give you this link. I ask for one with each surgery, it always helps me clear my lungs.
Hi Rebecca! I had surgery this past September. My chest was incredibly tight and I was so scared I was going to get pneumonia but as long as you keep doing what you are doing it should pass. The coughing part is terrible! Like so many said to me… You are in your beginning phase… You are not expected whatsoever to be able to move around like normal. Keep doing the little exercises and your neck will loosen! Take one day at a time and rest, rest, rest!! You are on the road to feeling fabulous!
Thanks guys! Great advice!
