I just had Decompression surgery on June 28th. Three weeks after my surgery, I found out that my sister (who was taking care of me) was stealing and taking my pain medication. I had no idea! I would never have thought that she would do something like this. So…when I should have just been resting and recovering from surgery, I had to deal with telling my doctor what happened and filing a police report. My doctor told me that this happens a lot more often than people think. I’m sharing this in hopes of preventing it happening to someone else. Please make sure that your medication is properly secured, even when you’re recovering from surgery! If you want to know the whole story, you can read my comment on Abby’s discussion titled “Crystal.” I hope this prevents anyone else here having to go through what I did…We’re all dealing with enough already.
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers:) I just hope no one else here has to go through something like this. It’s sad that we have to worry about this, but it is the world we live in. I’m thankful that I have true friends that got me out of my house and gave me the strength to do the right thing, even though I was made to feel like the bad guy for doing so. I was too sick and in too much pain to deal with this alone. I don’t know what I would have done without the love and support from my friends, you guys, and God.
My Grandmother was in Home Hospice for three weeks. She had Colon Cancer and because of her age & the fact she had had a wonderful life & my grandfather had died: she decided against all cancer treatment. She lived with my Mother. I stayed there during this time even though I was very sick. I wouldn't have my Cranial Nerve surgery while she was living. I didn't want to upset her. I had major narcotics and so did my grandmother. My Mother came to me because one of my cousins stole my Grandmother's liquid Morphine. To me this was unimaginable. You can never guess who will take advantage of you because of medication. It breaks your heart. It has broken Crystal's heart. When it is so hard to recover from CM surgery, you should NEVER have to worry if your medication will be there when you need it. Never !!!! It happens in all families from all walks of life.
I'm so sorry to hear this Crystal. I hope you were able to get a replacement for the ones stolen. Know that you are in my prayers and so will your sister, that she understands what she has done and if she needs help for an addiction, she gets it.
I am so sorry. I think you did the right thing filing the police report. My best friend has spina bifida and has undergone many painful surgeries. She takes morphine daily and has been the victim of theft more times than I can count. Almost always by her brother. I know how bad that hurts.
