Wisconsin Chiari Center

I see that Dr. Heffez and the WI Chiari Center are on the list of suggested doctors, but would like to know other opinions of him and the center.

Please share the good, the bad & the ugly on your experience Dr. Heffez and the WI Chiari Center. I've heard mixed reviews and would appreciate any and all experiences.

Thanks.

Heffez did my surgery about 7 weeks ago. I liked him after meeting him (he did a very thorough exam and I felt comfortable with his explanations). I received great care in the hospital. I still have post- operative pain, some days it’s pretty bad, other days almost non- existent, but everybody is different with that. I have my follow- up appt and mri with him in two weeks. I have only good experiences with him and his clinic, I feel confident in Recommending him! Good luck to you, I know it isn’t always easy finding the right surgeon. What is your situation? Newly diagnosed?

First off best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Thanks for your reply. My daughter was diagnosed in September of 2011. We currently see a neurosurgeon in Chicago, I really like her but she doesn't treat the symptoms of the Chiari but rather does the surgery if necessary. She has so many symptoms that we're trying to get to the bottom of to see if they are Chiari related, she has almost constant nausea, she will wake in the middle of the night to vomit, constant headaches of all sorts of varieties, she can only take notes in school for so long before she gets a headache, she can't carry her books without getting a headache, she has trouble concentrating and focusing in school, she has some issues with short term memory, she gets blurry vision associated with her chiari headaches, sometimes she says she can hear her heartbeat in her ears....those are the ones she most commonly mentions. She's had many gastro tests and has been seen by a gastro specialist....who by the way was very intrigued by Chiari and interested in learning more.

Thanks - I am new to this site and did not realize.

Anything negative please put in a PM please...only positive reviews can be posted here...=)

I’m so sorry for your girl, it seems unfair sometimes. I don’t know how old your daughter is, but I don’t think Heffez treats children under a certain age (16)?, could be wrong about this but check his website. There are other parents on this forum who may be of great help. There may be a group for parents to… Maybe post another discussion about needing info about children’s chiari treatment. I hope you find the right doc for your daughter:)

Thanks - my daughter is 17. I can't remember the age requirements, but she is in the age that he will treat. We actually have an appointment for June 12.

Oh good!
