I also had experience the twitching when lying on my back. There were very common before decompression surgery. Now I get them on ocassion .
I have resting twitches, they are down to my meds, have a look at the info label. Ammytriptilyne causes mine when mixed with the 16 pain meds, if i dont take them i get restless legs. Before i had them i got restless legs, check yoursodium/salt intake, have a warm bath and gentle yoga worked for me or the best one is get your partner to massage your legs. x
My daughter Aoife had exactly the same symptoms. restless legs, pins and needles, limbs jerking , sometimes so bad that her whole body would go into spasms. The worst event lasting more than two hours. This was reduced significantly when she had her surgery but still has restless legs!
As I was reading the comment my leg twitched! I thought I was the only one and I also didn't know if they were even related to my Chiari/syringomyelia but it appears they seem to be. Im going to the neuro guy in about two weeks so ill have to ask. Im a keep sketcher and have ruined many drawing with a somewhat comical ending
Wow! What a great number of responses! I definitely feel now that I’m not alone! I also get the electrical shocks and leg cramps. It has gotten significantly worse lately. I’ve actually had some very mild jerks foryears but never paid much attention to it. I discovered how bad it was a few months ago when I had a lumbar MRI and the technician toldme that I had to keep my feet still during it. It was so hard to do! Now I’m twitching even when sitting and standing. I’ve been reading up on this and it says that it can be caused by spinal cord compression or medications. I wonder about the meds. I’m on the same ones that I’ve been on for years, but I guess you can develop side effects anytime? I have herniated disks, stenosis, and degenerative disks all over my back too, so… A lot of my symptoms also point to MS, but Chiari is so similar to that. I have an appt with my first NL at the end of June. Hopefully we can figure this out! Its very frustrating! Thank you everyone for letting me know that I’m not alone!
I get small twitches, they last a few seconds but happen periodically throughout the day… I hardly notice it now. It doesn’t hurt me but when I’m resting I can see my thigh muscle contract or feel my eyelid twitch, it’s odd but painless. When I’m stressed it seems to be more intense. My fourth toe used to wiggle all on its own… That was interesting because if I try to move only that toe on my own its impossible!
Sometimes restless legs are due to low iron reserves. Your doctor may have some insight and advice.
I've been twitching for the last month or so. Started in my foot and now it is in my arm and back of legs sometimes. It seems to move around and some days are worse then others.
Made an appointment with my regular Dr. but can't get in until June 26th. Sometimes my muscles feel tight also or ache. It's really weird - don't like it at all.
Yup…I get them, too. I had a neurologist tell me that it could be a side effect of neurontin (gabapentin) which was prescribed for nerve pain. I reduced the amount of neurontin I was taking but the twitches, jerks, and “zings” (my very technical term for electric shock feelings) did not go away. For me, this is just one in a number of neurological gifts that this condition has given me. I believe there were several medications that have been prescribed for me in the past 15 years or so that did have the twitches (not the shocks) as a side effect. You may want to check with neurologist if you’ve changed meds in the recent past.
Best of luck to you, and peace to your body, mind and heart.
Wow! I know you dont hear this very often but "I Understand what you are going through" I have the hardest time explaining to people why im so cranky at times (not only pain makes me cranky) The twitching , the rolling , and worst of all the vibrating at different speeds. People look at me like im completly nuts,I dont think its restless leg syndrome cuz i have experienced that before and its different thats what i think .lets talk leg cramps im curious to know if others have the same problem with them and my toes are curling ,more on my right foot.Ive had my decompresion surgery and 2 shunt surgery and putting off more surgery,Ive been drinking ARNICA tea and applying the cream to painful parts (all over ) I have seen some good resultsts and seldom get such bad leg cramps and many other symptoms ,I highly recomend you to try for a while i drink the tea every day. Good luck and dont let it all change the person you are.
I totally understand what you are going through. I have been dealing with restless leg syndrome for a while. I don't get it every day, but often enough that it is bothersome. Such an uncomfortable problem when it's happening. I also deal with muscle twitching at times too, and when I get them....they are really "harsh" twitches. I'll get them on an eye - my lid will twitch constatnly and will last weeks, even months - just every day all day....twitching. Drives me nuts. Luckily, knock on wood, it hasn't happened to that degree in a while. I don't ever know what makes these things start up or disappear. The leg cramps are very uncomfortable. My ankle, toes, just everything seizes up. So frustsrating. So I feel for you.
I'd be interested to hear a little more about this Arnica tea. I'll research it too, but could you share more about it...what it does for you etc.?
I have been dealing with so many issues - all neurological and brain, and wrote my story of what I went through with my rare and very large brain cyst, shunt, and developing Chiari and brain sagging due to my dr. allowing my shunt to overdrain and refused to see me.
It's available now on Amazon, through Barnes and Noble etc. You might be interested in reading my story....others have told me it helped them.
I wish you all the best. I hope you get your issues resolved or atleast, to a point where they are manageable. I want to lok into that Arnica tea.
Take care and God Bless!
Maria

My husband experiences significant twitches and jerks. He is on a muscle relaxer because at times (before getting the relaxer) he would have full body spasms. We thought it was epilepsy, but it was really all his muscles twitching and moving at the same time. He still twitches a little bit on a bad day, despite the relaxer.
