So today I had a tilt table test to check for POTS. I didn’t pass out, but I sure felt close! I got all sweaty and my heart rate went up to 120 bpm after approx 10-15 min. I felt when the palpitations happened and the nurse said ‘Yes, your heart rate is definitely elevated’. She said it may be uncomfortable but it really showed them what they wanted to see.
The cardiologist was unable to see me today, but I am on a heart event monitor for another two weeks and then I see him to discuss the tilt table results and the event monitor findings.
I have been diagnosed with Chiari 8 months ago at a 3 mm drop, and then a second MRI showed another 2mm drop just 6 months after the first diagnosis. Since, I had been rushed to the hospital with a racing heart and we’ve been trying to figure out what the heck is going on since that episode. I’ve had smaller ones here and there, but they come and go quickly it seems.
My question is, for all intents and purposes does this sound like POTS? Some people have said you need to pass all the way out to be positive for it? Everything I’ve read leads me to believe you are POTS positive if your heart rate increases 30bpm from laying prone. The nurse couldn’t tell me anything definitive except that I did indeed have a ‘vasovagal response’ but she said I can’t say because I’m not a doctor. I wish I knew for sure and didn’t have to wait until October to know.
Glad you got one done. I am supposed to get a Tilt Table Test done but the local hospital does not do them anymore :(. Beeba is right you don't have to pass out. My heart rate has been 140 before and I have numerous "near syncope" episodes a day. Hopefully I can find a place to do the test.
