Symptoms returning after decompression surgery in 2002

Hello all,
My Chiari came on suddenly at the age of 26. It would be another 26 yrs and many doctors later before I was diagnosed and had surgery. I would say that for some 11 yrs the surgery was 90% successful! Thank God and a skillful surgeon!
I have joined this group to seek information about my symptoms starting to return after so many years. Anybody out there who has had, or is having a similar experience? Any information or words of wisdom?

Welcome to the group, Mo. Always unfortunate to hear of symptoms returning. You do not say what they are. I do know that the "softer" Chiari signs can respond to other approaches rather than surgery. Maybe you are in that category! Hopefully you kind the information and kind words that you are seeking.

Hi, Mo! Sorry to hear your symptoms have come back. I saw a NS for the first time only a week ago and have to do a cine MRI.

Although it is said everywhere Chiari symptoms may come back after the surgery, try to keep in mind it could be something else causing them. Maybe it's something with better treatment options. Have you seen a doctor about it, if yes, what did they say? If no, try to find someone who is fimiliar with Chiari.

I hope you can find relief soon!

Thank you for the replies!
There is a “tightening” that originates at the base of my skull and spreads through my head and into my throat. Also, I have bad pains in my legs causing limiting ability to stand and walk. Both of those symptoms were present before my diagnosis and surgery. They were gone after surgery.
I have an appointment with a local spine specialists for Tues., hoping he will do an MRI. I will return to my original Chiari specialist if necessary, but we now live 1500 miles away.
Hope your MRI brings good news!

That's a long way to travel. I think, if it's possible, it's always a good thing to see the doctor who has already successfuly treated you. Not only they would be more fimiliar with your individual case, but also you have a good reason to trust them. If the long distance is too much, we have a member recomended doctors list where you could find someone closer to home.

Let us know what the spine specialist says!

Thanks!:) Although I'm not sure what kind of news I'll find more comforting.
