Swollen Lymph Nodes

Has anyone experienced swollen lymph nodes at the base of the skull? They are apparently called occipital lymph nodes.

I am 4-1/2 mos. post-op decompression & duraplasty. I did not have any trouble with infection following surgery and I just noticed this swelling (little pea-sized lumps)today. My hands are always on my neck because I still have so much discomfort and am always rubbing it, so I was surprised when I felt this.

I do have a small pseudomeningocele that my NS is taking a wait & see approach with - but I don’t think that has anything to do with this.

Thanks,
Debbie

HI Debbie, I have a lump like that on right side of my neck sometimes it gets bigger and then decreases a little but has been there for months. I have not had surgery and when I showed it to my PCP he said he thought lymph node bc I had bronchitis but I have been on two antibiotics and it doesnt seem to affect it. I asked the same question on here and was told it seems alot of us get this to try taking advil and using some heat like a rice pad warmer. I have done this and it helps with my generalized pain but has not seemed to affect the size of it. I know I probably didn't help much but maybe we can share information on this. Much luck and prayers...Jenn

I noticed the same thing about 2 weeks ago, and now it seems to less prominent. Could it be related to any other illness your body is dealing with, even a cold? I might think so, but who knows. Or maybe it is part of the healing process. I am also about 4.5 months post surgery (9/27/13).

And agghh, can we talk about the neck discomfort. Some days its so bad I feel like I am regressing in my healing.

Thanks for the replies. I too thought of another type of infection that may be going on, but I don't have a cold or anything else that I know of?? They just sort of appeared, on both sides. My husband (who is a a saint), massages my neck almost every day and this is the first he has felt them. Oh well, I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.

I use heat & ice on and off throughout the day and just got a TENS unit to use for neck pain. My stomach is messed up from taking Advil so, Tylenol is about all right now and that really doesn't do anything.

Bearzy18 - I too have days where I feel like I am moving backward instead of forward in this recovery. This is sooooo much more than I expected. My little grandson is due in 5 weeks, and I can't wait to hold him, but my neck is not going to like it!!! Hoping and praying that by then, it feels a bit better.

I get those as well. I'm not sure if they are surgery related or not because I've had issues with chronic mono so those are among a few other nodes that frequently swell.

Hi there. I am seeing my EN T tomorrow because I have not had surgery but I do have the little bumpy lymph nodes and I’m curious to find out what it could be. I have seen and A endochronologist already and he ruled Thyroid issues or other Endochronology issues out he wanted me to see an ENT and see if it’s related to my tonsils or the Chiari who knows. I am looking for answers on this condition as well. My neurosurgeon doesn’t think it is related to the Chiari.

On another note I attended the southeast chapter CSF foundation lecture on Chiari this evening At the University of Miami. I learned a lot. Feel free to email me or contact me tomorrow for information.

Jozy - it is strange because we just talked about the swollen lymph nodes on the phone last week. These literally just appeared and are at the base of my skull.

Let me know how your appt. with the ENT goes and what info you got from the lecture. I will be around this weekend if you have a chance to call.

Debbie :)
