Surgery

I WENT TO MY DOCTORS TODAY AND THEY SAID I NEED SURGERY IM HAVING IT IN APRIL AND HE SAID ITS 5 YOURS OR LONGER AND I STAY IN ICU FOR 7 DAYS IM VERY NERVOUS ABOUT THIS

It's natural to be nervous, dolphin, especially after getting feedback from people with varying results. You have got some time to prepare and make plans for your recovery. Time to seek another opinion, too, if you are inclined. Make some time to enjoy some spring activities and some pleasant distractions from thinking about surgery. All the best to you!

I never was in icu. I was in a normal room. Had surgery on Thursday and left hospital on Sunday. I would watch your caffeine intake before because the withdrawal is horrible. I was taking a lot of caffeine to be able to function at work.

Had my surgery done in May last year, was in for 6 days in total, one day pre op, 5 days post op. There was no complications with the surgery, and therefore if the doctor had done his rounds later the previous day, would have been out even earlier. I was in ICU for less than 18 hours after operation, mainly as a precaution, but was assessed quickly to go on to a normal ward for recovery, so did just that.

I was in a different mind set to most going into the operation, I was not scared at all. Now this is not a boast of me being some kind of superman, but I was at a point with the headaches where I really had to have something done as life was becoming unbearable, and this became my only option. My only advice follows what others say, try to find something relaxing or fun that you are able to do leading up to the event, and try to put it to the back of your mind. Also, post op, lower expectations of what you will be able to do after the operation for a few weeks at least, giving your head/body time to fully recover. This is something I did not do, and became very frustrated, especially with those close to me who were only helping me to adjust (hate relying on other people to do things for me). Also, even though it is a difficult time for yourself, it is also a trying time for those around you, and sometimes they may need to take time for themselves. If you have good people supporting you at home, then the whole experience can be less nerve racking and more agreeable. Final wordsof advice, for what they are worth, don't let yourself be worked up before, and don't expect miracles after. I hope everything goes completely swimmingly for you, and you can back to some form of normality as soon as possible.

I was in icu for one night and regular room for 1 night but I pushed myself hard to get up and walk the day after my surgery and to only use my pain pump day after surgery as encouraged bu my icu nurse.(He said the sooner you are walking and not using iv meds just oral sooner you go home) It hurt but was so worth it to be home instead of the hospital.
