Surgery

Hi everyone. My surgery is scheduled for April 30th. Any words of advice on how I should prepare? Any specific questions I need to be asking my NS before then?

Thanks!

Nikki

One of my biggest concerns was how they would put the remaining portion of my hair up so it wouldn't be in the surgeon's way. When a friend of mine woke from neurosurgery she discovered that they had used rubber bands in her hair. I was extremely worried about this so I asked my neurosurgeon if I could take care of my hair before he began surgery. When he came to visit me the morning of surgery, I asked him to section out the hair he would cut off and he allowed me to do whatever I needed to do with the remainder of my hair.

Now, with that being said, there were plenty of questions I had. I wrote them all down and we addressed them one by one prior to my surgery. The biggest thing is for you to be 100% confident in your surgeon. You must decide what you need in order to place so much of your trust in him. For me, it was questions like how many times have you done this surgery, what are the potential risks, how long will I be in the hospital, how big will my scar be, how long will recovery take.

Best wishes and God Bless.
