Supplements and Alternative Care recommendations

I am curious what people have found supplement wise that has helped with symptoms or studies anyone knows of about the use of supplements to minimize chiari symptoms…

Hey @katemc,

Not specifically for chiari. I think because chiari has a physical impact on the brain using supplements is really only masking and not treating the cause. After my initial neurosurgery I saw a naturopath who swore he could have treated my symptoms without surgery, but the cause of my symptoms was still present. So in my view, I’d forever be chasing my symptoms until the cause was managed.

Hope it helps

Hi there , my neurologist has just recommended I start taking riboflavin which is apparently proven to help with the head pain side of things . It’s Vitamin B2 . So I have started taking that to see if that helps .only started taking it the last week or so .

I went to a natural dr. who’s also a MD (but practices as natural as possible). I went for other health reasons - for example my blood pressure was high, I wanted to lose weight and no diet would budge my weight. Long story short - she did lab work, found out what hormones, vitamins, etc I needed. She gave me some enzymes to help with inflammation and an exercise plan and low carb diet. After a couple months, I rarely have had my normal chiari headaches. Over the holidays, I let up and there they were again. All that to say, go see a doctor who will do a large panel of labs and make a prescription for your personal overall health and give you what you need to help you not have inflammation, etc. I do believe it will help at least eliminate some of the headaches. On the previous comment above - B Vitamins were something I was deficient in. But you should find out what YOU need, not what I take. (General doctors may say everything’s normal on a lab - whereas the range is so high and the natural doctor will tell you where you personally need to be for good health.)

I was getting headaches every day and my neurologist prescribed medication which I said I wouldn’t take and I asked for a more natural way. She told me to take b2 (riboflavin) and double dose of magnesium oxide. No more headaches. Plus the magnesium helps with my IBS.
