I hope everyone is finding at least one bright star this weekend :-)
I was wondering, if you had decompression surgery, how long you felt you needed (or how long your doctor wanted) to stay in the vicinity of the hospital after surgery.
I live about 7 hours from the hospital and am trying to plan ahead. I will talk to the dr.'s office about it this week, but I wanted to get opinions from people who have lived it.
I had a craniotomy and laminectomy surgery. I was out in 3 days. Was still in incredible pain. But I suppos I would have been if I was in the hospital. My home was about 45 min from the hosp. I will say if it is not iminent danger to you. Wait as long as you can for the surgery. I got much worse afterwards. It isn't a cure. but my options were paralasys or death. so I did it. Sorry to b a bummer. But it is just my opinion. My surgery was 8 yrs ago. And I don't work now. I am on disability an assume I always will be. And i don't like that either.
I've not had the surgery yet but in speaking with my NS last week he said he would keep me two nights in the hospital and then if he had any suspicions things weren't looking perfect he would add on an extra night or two. After he released me he said it was fine to go home (almost 5 hrs away).
I stayed in Aurora for 10 days after surgery just in case something came up. I really think this helped my recovery because all I could do was rest and heal. If I was home, I may have been tempted to try and do something for girls.
On Dr Oro's suggetion, we flew to Denver so I didn't have a long car ride.
