well spoke to the doctor today and they told me that the pain in my ear is to do with my cm. they have now give me another tablet to take called nortriptyline ive also been told that i might have to have decompression surgery . can anyone explain this to me ?
Chiari or Microvascular Decompression Surgery?
I have had both surgeries. My Microvascular Decompression Surgery was from Geniculate Neuralgia (deep, severe ear pain) and was caused by my undiagnosed CM. I would ask them if you have any compressed cranial nerves causing the pain. GN is extremely rare. If the medication doesn't help you should definitely ask them. Ear pressure and pain are totally different.
Thanjs girls x
How do they diagnose compressed cranial nerves? I'm currently pain free, but when it was bad at the beginning of the year, one of my symptoms was a shooting pain in my right ear. It was obvious to me that it was coming with the other symptoms. I haven't had the ear pain since making behavioral modifications to reduce all of my symptoms (mostly working - headaches are very infrequent now).
My NS diagnosed mine from MRI's of the brain with and without contrast and the symptoms I was having. I had been having ice pick stabbing deep ear pain. All my diagnostics were normal ear wise. Your Cranial Nerves control your whole body. I was shocked at all the problems you can develop from compressed cranial nerves. Many CM symptoms come from cranial nerve crowding or compression. Especially the vagus nerve.
