Some slightly urgent advice needed - possible duraplasty leak?

Okay so I had my posterior fossa decompression about five weeks ago and everything up until now has been perfect. Over the last few days it looks like a small hole has opened up in my wound, it's maybe 1-2mm big, and it's been weeping some clear fluid. I wasn't worried because it was only a tiny bit, but today, when I checked the wound, clear fluid actually dripped out of it and down my neck. It was a little drip, but a drip nonetheless.

I have zero other symptoms at all, I feel completely fine. I have my follow up neurosurgeon appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I'm wondering whether this is likely to be a duraplasty leak and if so, whether I should get myself into emergency or just wait it out until tomorrow?

I tried calling my ward but they didn't know and just said I should call my neurosurgeon's office, but it's closed.

Thanks to anyone on here who can help out :)

Hello there, I do not think you need to go to the hospital, although I am not 100% sure! I was looking up online you condition you are having, and I found another lady who has experienced the same thing. She said she had CSF. You might want to look it up and see if that is anything you might have, and if so you should be able to wait till your doctor visit.

If I were you, I'd call my NS asap. I don't know much about this but I have read other stories on here that scared me. Please call your NS, it is always better to be on the safe side. Hope it all works out ok. Good luck!

I had some weeping of my wound when I had my surgery. It wasn't a leak but it was where the hairs were regrowing some of them formed blister like bubbles and when I touched them or on there own they would deflate and leak fluid. It freaked me out and I went to my NS office to have it checked out. He said it was normal and would pass. It did but it took a long time.

So I don't think there is any need to rush into the hospital, but I would def try and get a hold of the NS to see if maybe they can move your appt up to today instead... In the meantime if it is a CSF Leak, lay flat for as much as you can! Don't do anything, just lay there!!! I did have a leak and I had terrible symptoms, headache which was the worst, and I was told to lay flat as much as possible so that it could possibly seal on its own and it didn't soooooo I had to have another surgery to repair it..

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Take Care
