Recovery Time

Good morning, all!

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Malformation back in January. I had decompression surgery with a dural patch (craniectomy and laminectomy) on 28 March. I was out of work for about eight weeks, then I was on half days for a few more weeks.

We're now into July, and I find I still seem to get tired more easily than I did before my surgery, and the barometer seems to really affect the back of my head and neck. Is this normal? At what point will I be back where I was (in terms of energy, the headaches and other symptoms are greatly reduced) before the surgery? I know this will vary greatly from person to person, just wondering in general.

Thanks, all!

Jenn

I'm 9 mos. post op and still have a few issues in relation to the weather/barometer. I still feel a thousand times better than before surgery but when the weather is stormy my head and neck know it!

As for energy I found each month I felt a little better. Around 6 mos. I started feeling more "normal" and now there are days I can almost forget that I even had surgery!

Everyone is different & that is very important to remember. Low pressure or when the barometer drops is very bad for me. When we have hurricanes or Nor'easters I am very ill. Have you talked to your dr. who is following your post op care about your symptoms? Some Chiarians have to get used to a new normal a post surgical normal. Most Ns's advise it takes a full year to know where you are going to be post surgical. I hope you continue to improve. Have you had your Thyroid, Vitamin B12 & D checked? Sometimes if they are low it zaps your energy and are common issues with adult Chiarian women.
