Problems after swimming

hey all. I am on a tempermental laptop at the hospital while Katrina continues her 4.day EEG. Anyhow, before comingto the EEG on Monday we ,Katrina and I, went swimming at an indoor pool. granted the cholorine was srong but not the strongest I have ever been in. It was the first pool that I have been in since decompression though. My question is or does anyone have trouble with their eyes afterwards. I did some underwater but not alot. There was some splashing as I am still trying to teach Katrina how to swim. We were in the pool for maybe 1.5 hours tops. It took 3 days for my eyes to quit being blurry and burning, not to mention the haze around everything was 10X worse than normal. I rinsed my eyes with plain water, saline, and visine and nothing helped except time. Any clues or ideas? thanks Mike

Thie laptop is not letting me use the enter to much so sorry about the confusion without paragraphs

Yes, anytime you have Cranial Surgery they are working around your Cranial Nerves. When I had my Micro Vascular Decompression surgery I lost almost complete ability to produce tears in my right eye for several years. I had to have stoppers put in my tear ducts & use moisturizing eye drops several times a day. It has gotten better over several years, but my Neuro Eye Dr told me that I was lucky that the affected nerve doesn't usually get better after 6 months.

I had an extreme case in that situation. I swim & walk in heated pools whenever possible. I also have sensitive eyes no matter what the chlorine level is. I just think it is another Chiari sensitivity. I will ask my Neuro Eye Dr. to give me more medical information about CM/Cranial Nerves/ New Eye Sensitivity for Swimming Pools/Post Decompression entire issue & if it is a permanent sensitivity. My CM Decompression was done in 2005 & both of my eyes are still sensitive. I also agree nothing makes it better but time & I have practically lived in a pool most of my life & never had a problem before my cranial surgeries.

I also am having laptop issues. I had to buy a new one. My old one just gave up last week. It is taking me a lot of time to become acclimated with this new High Tech Laptop. It is so frustrating. I feel your pain Mike !!!

Vastly More Important....How is Katrina????

Michael,

Chlorine has always bothered me but not to the extent of what you suffered. It burns my eyes and if the smell is stong in indoor pools I have to leave immediately or I get dizzy. I know it probably won't happen again but there are some FANTASTIC homeopathic eye drops that don't just cover up the problem like most eye drops they help your eyes heal. And they feel GREAT. They are available everywhere..CVS, Walgreens ect..

I hope that Katrina's testing goes well and that it helps find some answers for you all.

Thanks you ladies. The problem got worse this week due to Katrina's EEG all three nights had to be sleep deprived bed at midnight, up at 6 AM and no naps. Sometimes I wonder how we pull through, all I know is that it is for the love of children why we do things as parents.

Hopefully it was a fluke with their chlorine and maybe you are more sensitive ? But after I swim I like to use my saline and flush my eyes afterwards. I'm sure any sort of saline eye drop would work.

I find it helps me a lot!!!
