Hello, I too have recently started the thoracic pain with my Chiari, are they related, I am not sure, but you are not alone. It seems our bodies do things we cannot understand with this illness, I have had two decompressions, the last one with the dural mesh, and a cervical corpectomy with C5 to C7 fusion, the latter from an accident. I am 16 months out from last procedure. I have started new symptoms the last few weeks, it feels this body is not my own, but like all of us with this, we have to keep going the best we can. I do yoga, recovery, for me it helps with the pain, anxiety, and clears my mind. I like you, get the numbness down my left side, and fingers and toes turn a purplish-blue, and my hands and feet always feel really cold. I do not have sleep apnea, but like you, have difficulty sleeping, I lay on a big ice pack thing, it relaxes my nerves. Do you like myself have a problem with heat? I have not been able to tolerate since my first decompression. I hope some of this helps you, and it finds you having a good day. K

Thank you for replying. Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back. I’ve had a hard time. What’s new…lol… gotta laugh about it…or I would sit and Cry rolled up in a corner. And Frankley that’s just not my Style…
Anyhow. I am going in for my First Decompression This June. Sounds like we have a lot of the Same symptoms. That’s Chiari ! For ya ! …Many many Symptoms! And so many effect people differently. And then at times The same…lol. I hope you are Having a Good day…God Bless You…

Hello sorry too,I myself have not been goo, but as you say, we keep going anyway. just had more mris, I should glow in the dark by now. I am sending good and positive thoughts your way, and will think of you in the days ahead. We who suffer silently from this condition are stronger than we give ourself credit for. The tech I had for my mri yesterday, told me I was the calmest patient she has ever had, and knowing my med history she complimented me on my bravery and attitude towards my life and conditions, that made me feel better. I hope this finds you having a good day. K

What you are describing sounds like Radicular Pain (radiculitis) It almost NEVER is caused by a Chiari. as the chiari is much higher and thos nerves haven’t entered the spine yet. It is mostly likely a mechanical issue/instability that will be treated differently than the chiari (A decompression in other words won’t likley have any effect) The most common reasons are age, wear and tear, general weakness etc. Problems with your Chiari MAY have started the ball rolling but the solutions are different.

It gets confusing in the cervical spine because the nerve root is named according to the LOWER spinal segment that the nerve root runs between. For example, the nerve at the C5-C6 level is called the C6 nerve root.

It is named this way because as it exits the spine the nerve root passes OVER the C6 pedicle (a piece of bone that is part of the spinal segment).

I’m very sorry your having that shooting pain going down into your thoracic…I Too have experienced that many times. So far the only thing actually found upon MRI etc.have been bone spur thoracic region.i believe also a bit of spondylitis and degenerative disc.
