My name is Maggie, my pain started in my head, near my ear and my left shoulder, arm and hand. I have had ear surgery twice-unrelated to my Chiari but constant pain after the surgeries finally led me to a diagnosis. Chiari Malformation I - 2 1/2 years ago. My neurologist referred me to a surgeon in tampa that would not touch my Chiari, she referred me to a pain management doctor and PT. It was my pain management doctor, Dr. Nell-awesome doctor-that strongly suggested I see a specialist for my Chiari because of other back issues I was experiencing. Insurance would not cover the doctor he preferred in CO but my neurologist gave me Dr. Green's number. I found their process of determining if they could help me, comforting. they were very thorough in looking over all of my MRI's and injections to determine that Dr. Green could help. I am scheduled for surgery on July 9, but scarred to death. I've read where life is different after surgery, I certainly understand that recovery will take time but---can anyone elaborate?

Hi Maggie. So sorry for your problems. Chiari stinks but hopefully the surgery will give you back your life & take away the pain. It took my son a good year to fully recover & see what he was left with. The 1st 2 weeks were bad- a lot of nausea & vomiting & headaches. Then it got much better. But he had a series of weird symptoms that 1st year- seizures 6 months after, severe migraines & just needed to tweak mess & go in topamax. Good luck to you & Bert wishes with your surgery!

Sorry for typos! Sometimes these smartphones are so dumb. LOL!

Hi Maggie. Everyone’s experience with Chiari seems to be different. My son is 12 now & did well until about a year ago. He has relapsed:( he is now at 23mm. Headaches daily. MRI spine next week & then see neurosurgeon… Many people need only 1 surgery & that is it. Keep the faith & a positive attitude. Faith can take us a long way

Brian's mom, I am so sorry your son has to go through something like this at such an early age. My faith is strong, thank the good Lord, because I don't know how people get through life with out it! thanks for your encouraging words. I will pray for Brian.
