I was lucky enough to get a Chiari diagnosis despite having very minor symptoms. For me, it was a struggle to figure out if I would benefit from surgery at all. When an EMG showed my tiny syrinx had been damaging my nerves for at least five years, it confirmed things for me.
Previously I’ve only had minor headaches a minor tingling and numbness, primarily in my left arm.
Things changed earlier this week, when my right leg developed a really deep feeling of discomfort bordering on pain. It bothers me to drive to the point I’ve had a freind do my 30-mile rountrip run to pick up my son from school twice. I have a hard time sitting, so I kneel at the computer or stand. Even lying down it bothers me, though lying down seems to give the most relief.
So, I’ve got questions.
1 Is this symptom likely to cycle over a period of days?
2 Do others treat this with pain meds? All I have at present is tylenol, which doesn’t do a thing. Muscle relaxants? My decompression is scheduled for July 9, so no blood thinners.
3 Does anything else help? Hot bath? Stretching? PT?
4 Anyone else worried that the measurable nerve damage is on the left, both arms and legs, but this pain is on the right?
Guide me, oh experienced ones!
(And send me good thoughts. My son has surgery to drain a two-inch cyst between the lobes of his cerebellum on Wednesday. )-
