Just found this post.... I'm a country girl so I listen to alot of it. But no matter what kind of day I am having, I listen to upbeat music. Some of my current favorite ones that keep me going are...
Now, some of this may be because I have started a new relationship with a guy who is perfect. He knows I'm sick and it hasn't scared him off. He is totally supportive of me and does everything he can to help when I'm having a bad day. And he cares about my son like he's his own. And, for the first time in my life of dating, I found a guy who tells me how beautiful he thinks I am daily. So I'm in a gushy mood now a days. Hope everyone is having a pain free day.

Music DEFINITELY heals hearts and bodies. When my pain is at its worst, I sing. If you've not heard of the pain gate theory, it goes something like this: your neural network all goes in through one "gate" in your head. You can only perceive so much information at once. Pain takes longer to get to the gate than pleasure does. If you can create pleasing sensations, it fills the "gate" and you perceive less pain. (The things you pick up as a birth professional! For an example, this is a woman singing through the last part of her labor... Brings me to tears every time! http://youtu.be/z3WA9iHz5ww)
Singing (and music in general) causes good feeling by helping you release endorphins. The endorphins make you feel good and distracts you from your pain. On nights when I'm feeling up to it, my husband has been taking me out to karaoke for a couple songs. He also made me a disc of my favorite songs to sing, and installed a karaoke program on my computer so I've got tons of options for singing. :)
My mix CD has the following songs:
Chevelle - The Red
Death Cab for Cutie - Bend to Squares
Fleet Foxes - Mykanos
Mika - Grace Kelly
Morcheeba - Enjoy the Ride
Parachute - Something to Believe In
Metro Station - Shake It
Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know
Spacehog - Mungo City
Superdrag - Sucked Out
System of a Down - Question
30 Seconds to Mars - The Kill
And Upular by Pogo (he remixes Pixar and Disney films into music - totally fascinating): http://youtu.be/A2yt1ooLQGo
Anyway, that's my two cents... (more like five bucks!) I am a big believer in music as a healing force. :)
Thank you...That is awesome & I learned something new. This is an Amazing Group !!!!

Florence the Machine - I really like her music! She is very talented and listen to her all of the time actually. I also listen to Gotye's new song (their other songs aren't as good imo). Here it is:
That's what got me hooked on Gotye. The other two songs of his I really like are Bronte and Hearts A Mess. He's a talented guy! :D I love Florence + the Machine, too. There's not a lot of music I don't like. (Don't get me started on Dubstep. *shudder*)

The song that is stuck in my head is "Fix You" by Coldplay. It has several meanings in my life right now and I keep singing it over and over and listening to it on my iPod.
I really like the song by Gotye. Thanks for the post.

I knew GOTYE would be popular out here! :) I keep track of youtube views on YouTube videos and it is likely going to become the most popular YouTube music video ever (at the moment at least). It's really incredible. I haven't seen anything like it in some time. And they are very talented.
I too like a lot of different songs and when asked what music I like, I really do like all of it (except for a lot of rap and dubstep or even hard rock). and yes, I shudder at dubstep. Every single time I see a movie trailer use dubstep I cringe. The thing is it is over-saturating a lot of advertising anymore.
Dubstep = Music having a seizure.
However, there is a song that is a strange mix. It isn't dubstep, at all. It is more electronic rock, if that would be a genre. The latter part of the song isn't that good though. It just reminds me of something that would be in the Matrix (I think it is the same composer). Here it is:
Another song I like (I think most will like this better than the above song):
Go to the video on YouTube, then scroll down just beneath the video, find the "Share" button. After that you'll see the link to the video, and then to the right Embed. Click on that. It will expand with a code that you can copy and paste. Now come back to the forum you'd like to share on and click on the "Media" Button. Past the code and hit "Ok." I hope this helps you out.
I am pretty sure there might be a simple plugin for the forums (even free perhaps) that would upgrade this system to be easier. One thing I enjoy is seeing what other people enjoy in terms of music/movies. Definitely going to make a movie thread soon :)
I am determined to keep this music thread going until Twitch comes back and takes it over. If you haven't met him he is an incredible person and Moderator. I hope he finds in life what he is looking for.........For all us that know him ...we miss him very much !!!!
The video makes me bawl and the song hits too close to home (the battle between who I was and who I am now). Then there's the auto-tune train wreck toward the end of the song. If you can get past that, it's quite touching.
