Lump on the back of my neck

I am still waiting to see a NS for my Chiari, and symptoms seems to be progressing quickly, but I have had a lump on the back of my neck for quite some time. It is right at the base of my hair line, doesn't really hurt..but makes my neck stiff at times. I have had it for some time now, but when I had my mri's done they didn't say anything about it. It is possible for it to be a build up of spinal cord fluid? Has anyone ever had this before? I have not had a cine mri yet, is this the only kind of mri that shows what your spinal fluid flow is, or can they see that from a regular mri? Any input would be great, thank you!

Hi Beeba,

As far as I know the previous mri did not show a syrinx..only the radiologist read it, and then my neurologist and they didn't mention anything about it. They just said I might be a candidate for surgery and have referred me to a NS. Thank you for responding.

I have very little. Yes a CINE is The only test to check for flow. Did previous MRI sho a syrinx? Regardless, sound like something you should call your dr about.

Don't worry too much, if it was a build up of fluid it would be very obvious and I'm sure they would have caught it. Definitely mention it to the NS. I remember before I had surgery I was worried about the same kind of lump and now it feels like that's exactly what they took care of. Good luck with the NS :) <3

Thanks Bill, I'm not too worried about it. :-)
