I suffer from severe low back pain too:( Mine is caused by herniated discs and/or a syrinx in my lumbar spine. Do you know what’s causing yours? If not, you should really get an MRI. To manage my pain, I use pain medication, heating pads, and ice packs. Low back pain can be very debilitating, so I’m really sorry that you’re dealing with that too:( I wish I had some better suggestions for you.
I do, and I was in a car accident recently that has made it so much worse. I stopped seeing my chiropractor after I found out I had the Chiari malformation, but I went back to him (he doesn't manipulate my neck) and it's helped tremendously. He also has me ice it and take ibuprofen for the inflammation.
I have really bad lower back pain as well. I can't stand up for more then 5-20 mins at a time, or even when I try to "push through the pain" my body locks up entirely and refuses to move, some days are better then others, but its ussualy worse. I spoke to a Chiari specialist on the phone, when making arrangements to go see them, and they said that it sounded like I had something called Tethered Cord Syndrome. Its a syndrome that can accompany Chiari Malformation. There are several syndromes that can accour when Chiari is present, but it takes a specialist to identify them ussualy since they are not common and some need specialized newer tests to pinpoint.
To simplify the Tethered Cord Syndrome: everyone has a Ligament that runs from the base of your spinal cord to the rest of your body. This cord is here to keep your spine anchored in the proper place as you grow and move. In healthy person the cord, while stabalizing your spinal colum, will flex, stretch, and bend with the person as they move arround. In the case of Tethered Cord Syndrome the cord has thickened and become unable to flex and stretch as the person moves. This condition means that as you move, instead of moving with you the cord is instead yanking on your spinal cord everytime you try to move. This can obviously affect your Chiari Malformation and trigger some of the headaches, as well as causing lower back pain. Tethered Cord Syndrome can also cause a number of other symptoms including Irritable Bowel Syndrom, Bladder issues, and some other problems. The cord can develop tethers any where along the spinal colum, but that's ussualy due to injury at the site, if its other then at the base.
Here's a link to the Tethered Cord page of the Chiari Center I was talking about: http://www.wichiaricenter.org/oth/Page.asp?PageID=OTH000008
At least the Surgery to fix this looks a lot simpilar and looks alot safer. There's another link to some video on the base of that page that shows the surgery, its actual surgery so you might want to shoo kids out of the room first.
Hi,
I had the same problem...It happened every time I slept on my back. My PCP injected that nerve twice with Steroids and it hasn't hurt again. I really hope you feel better that is misery. You can also walk backward and it releases the nerve. It sounds crazy ....but try it. It really works in a pool well. Sciatica can last a long time if not treated. Please let us know how you are doing.
