Keeping the pieces?

I am scheduled for my surgery May 24th, and I keep getting asked the same question over and over: Are you going to keep the pieces of bone that they cut out? (I know, I have a strange group of friends and family.)

I did not remember to ask my surgeon the last time I saw him about it, so I don't even know if that's an option. So I'm asking you guys: Did you keep the pieces? Would you want to? I am fully aware that it's a really weird question. :)

I had friends ask me this after surgery. It never even crossed my mind to ask because I just wanted to feel better. It won't hurt to ask. All they can say is no.

It wasn't something that crossed my mind either. My 7-yo asked if he could have the pieces because he wants to take them to show and tell. But other friends have asked since. I'll let you guys know if they let us keep 'em.

Sorry but they won't let you take your bones home. I never had even thought of keeping mine. I agree totally with Beeba. Plus they may use bone in studies , that may help with eradicating CM or some other bone diseases.

I don't think they will let you keep it. I think that it will be considered biohazard material because of the blood. It doesn't hurt to ask though.

My daughter asked my NS for my bone, and the ENT for her sisters tonsils. They both said no. ;(

Ok Thank you guys.....you put my mind at ease big time!! Thank you. I thought my son had lost his mind when he asked me to tell my ns the same exact thing

I have wondered about this too, thanks for asking. I can see my daughters asking for some of the same reasons mentioned above. I think I will ask when I schedule (if I remember) but thanks for sharing and it is not weird
