So I just came back from a walk to the mail box and dropped off my application for the chiari institute. I really hope they can help me with my pain and frustration dealing with my local NL's. This is my last hope I have heard many people on this forum say great things about it. I live in Brooklyn, NY so I'm not that far from it. the big problem for me is I don't drive and don't know anyone who has a car. My saving grace has turned out to be my boss. I'm a nanny and take care of her daughter. she told me she is sick of seeing me in pain all the time and offered to take a day off her job to drive me to my appt. I am so grateful to her for not only being and awesome boss but a great friend. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how long I should expect to wait for an appt? Also what should I expect from the first visit? Do they do MRI's right away? I would love any info from people who have been there already. thanks.
They usually want you to have MRI's before you see a Neurosurgeon, but they can order them. Your appointment will depend on your Medical history. Most specialist usually go over new patient info once a week and then fit you in according to your medical history. I have seen Members get in a few days and I have seen other wait several months. We have a Resouce page that has a link for what to expect on your first visit that is great information. I would also recommend that you take a small tape recorder with you & a friend or family member. They go over so much information it's hard to remember everything. The first thing will be getting your MRI. Try not to worry about when you will get an appointment. Everything will come together. You sound like you have a Great boss/friend. Please let me know if you have any questions. Also, Chiari Malformations affects everyone differently. Please don't get upset about something you may read on here. Some Members are a lot worse than others. We have so many Members from all over the world. It's amazing how we are all so different but when it comes down to it we are all the same. You are going to like it here. I promise, everyone is Amazing !!!
