Hi, this will be my very first discussion, so hopefully I am doing this correctly. I was just diagnosed with Chiari, and the radiologist said it measures at 6mm..Is it possible they could read it wrong? I have had may symptoms for a long time, and they seem to be getting worse. Also at what point do they recommend surgery for this?
Neurosurgeons have a better eye for these things and will usually ask for copies of your MRIs. It's not so much that the scans aren't accurate it's just that the radiologist may not be the most experienced in reading them.
You doctor may request a CINE MRI to see if the herniation is impeding the flow of your spinal fluid.
