Abby,

Thank you for posting this:) My Chiari and Syringomyelia pain/symptoms started after a car accident. I was rearended while stopped at a stop light on a Highway, so the speed and impact was quite high. I’m curious to know how many others symptoms started this way. Thank you again:)

Abby thank you . you are wonderful for posting this, now I have to admit my wife was right. Thanks for that, LOL.

Crystal mine started from a car accident and then a little later getting a good smack on the noggin and blacking out.

The doctor (NS) finally say I have CM but their argument is how is it effecting me, like I really want to have these symptoms.

Both of my kids were diagnosed after head trauma. My son fell off a counter when he was 2 years old and was diagnosed that was almost 9 years ago when even less was known about Chiari then. My daughter was diagnosed in May after symptoms from a car accident the previous August. We knew that our son would never play contact sports because of this, but it completely took us of guard when our daughter was diagnosed as well. We were told it was rare! Thank heavens her choices of sports have been dancing and swimming.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences,

Hi Crystal,

Both of my kids were diagnosed after head trauma. My son was diagnosed almost 9 years ago at the age of 2. He fell of the counter and fractured his skull. We were in ICU for 3 or 4 days. Much less was known about Chiari then. We thankfully had a pediatric Neuro (not a specialist in Chiari) whose wife has Chiari so he was able to look for and diagnose immediately. We feel extremely blessed that he diagnosed it that quickly. He let us know that our son would never be able to play contact sports because of it, saving us from future injuries and perhaps disaster. My daughter was diagnosed in May after a car accident the previous August. This came as quite a shock to us because we were told it was so rare! I am interested to hear everyones experiences and to see what future research brings us!

Wow!! thank you so much for posting this!! I was in a bad car accident in 1996 rear ended twice. Broke my nose. had a Hematoma on my scalp.Developed a blown right pupil right after the accident was treated by an ophthomoligist specialist at Robert Wood Johnson in NJ for 3/4 yrs after the accident. constantly being sent for MRI to see if I had MS (I had alot of the symptoms) Saw Dr Lepore every 3 to 4 months during that time for the blown pupil. He was baffled. Now that I have been diagnosed with Chairi I know it was the accident that caused it. Thanks again so much for the eye opener!!
