My son was recently diagnosed with Chiari 1 and our first appt. with the pediatric neurosurgeon at the Chiari Center is scheduled for a week from Thursday. To be honest with you, my head is swimming and I don't even know what questions to ask. So far I plan on going in with a list of his symptoms, asking what the next steps are, as far as testing/treatment goes, and what limitations, if any, should we put on him with sports. Is there anything I am forgetting???
Hi developing a rapport is important then gut feeling are they listening then how many have they done any complications infections we also asked if they opened the dura as this can increase infection but sometimes has to be done. Where r u located we went to New York there was no one here in Ky
We are in Northern Michigan but driving to the University of Michigan Hospital's Chiari Center in Ann Arbor. I am doubtful that we will be looking at surgery at this time since my son does not have headaches. His biggest symptom is cyclical vomiting. I looked at the calendar today and realized he missed out on about 25% of the last year of his life due to nausea and vomiting. We are hoping to find out if the specialist believes it is related to the Chiari. On the MRI last week the tonsilar decent measured 11mm. We have not had a full spinal MRI or a CSF test to check for pressure so I imagine those may be on the agenda in the weeks to come.
