In July I saw Dr. Heffez, who a lot of people had recommended to me, but not wanting to rush into a second surgery after my first didn't go well, I just last week saw Dr. David Frim at the University of Chicago. I guess I wanted to know if anyone else has seen him and let him do their surgery. He wanted to remove my Bovine Patch and replace it with a piece of harvested Pericardium. I also have a bovine patch in my heart so i feel like it isn't the bovine patch causing my continued problems. does anyone have any advice or been in a similar situation? I'm really confused and just don't know what to do, I'm so overwhelmed. Thanks for any help.
Elsie, I typed in Frim in the search bar at the top of the Discussions page. It brought up a few past discussions that you can read through. Best of luck, sorry I can’t share any personal experience.
I am not familiar with the surgeons, but I just wanted to let you know that pericardial tissue was used in my surgery. Having said that, I'm only 3+ weeks post-op at this point.
We loved Dr. Frim, but have not had surgery with him yet. From my research Dr. Frim has good surgical outcomes. Low infection rates and low CSF leak rates. I think I would feel comfortable if he said I needed surgery, it was probably true. He seems to choose his surgical patients carefully. This has also been the criticism I’ve heard about him, but I think it is a positive instead of a negative.
