Dura patch clinical trial ? please help!

HELLO ALL,

NEED YOUR INPUT ON THIS.

MY SON IS HAVING HIS SURGERY ON MONDAY AT BARROW NEUROLOGICAL INSTITUTE/ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL IN PHOENIX. HE WILL BE 18 ON THIS FRIDAY.

I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY ASKING IF HE WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A CLINIC TRIAL STUDY. BASICALLY THEY ARE DOING A STUDY ON HOW WELL HARVESTED GRAFT FROM THE PATIENT VS A SYNTHETIC PATCH DOES. IT IS A 12 MONTH STUDY WITH 200 PATIENTS. THIS STUDY IS ONLY BEING PERFORMED THRU THIS HOSPITAL.

MY SON WILL NOT KNOW WHAT PATCH HE GETS UNTIL AFTER SURGERY.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR OPINIONS ON EITHER.. THANKS!!!

I can’t comment on the patches (mine was bovine and it has done well for me) but I just wanted to wish your son, you, and your family best wishes and feelings of peace in the coming week. Your son will be in my prayers!

Thank you everyone,

I am going to talk to our NS to see what his opinion is before we decide on anything. I was hoping that I would get some opinions on both and how they worked for everyone.

I have a synthetic patch. I'm 11 months post op and haven't had any issues with it. My post-op MRI shows no scar tissue or rejection! Good luck!
