Constant pain and pressure at site

I had my decompression done Oct 1 2014 and was only "Pain Free" 2 weeks and then the headaches started back up. Told my NS or should I say his Nurse Practitioner because I hardly ever saw him after surgery. I have a mess plate and cement in there and was wondering if anyone else know as to why I am still having headaches 6 moths post op. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello

Sorry to hear about your headaches after surgery. Follow-up with your healthcare professionals is important so I hope that that is going well. Otherwise, there are lots of reasons for having headaches after surgery that maybe more indirectly related to Chiari. When this is the case, physicians know that surgically and medically you are stable so their job is done! It then becomes important to find other health care professionals with the knowledge that you need.

Reasons for headaches include cranio-vertebral headaches (decreased movement in the upper cervical causes headaches), trigger points in a variety of muscles (there is a good book on self-treating trigger points on amazon), myofascial restrictions, faulty neck/shoulder movement patterns, dural restrictions in the neck and spine, and others. It is easy to say that Chiari is the cause of all headaches, but that is not so.

Good luck in teasing out the reasons for your headaches and finding people that can help you!

Thanks for the information I will check with my Primary Care Dr and have him refer me to another specialist

Hi

I cam across another posting where I read further about your surgical difficulties. An extra good luck to you in ruling out or sorting medical conditions that may be impacting your recorvery. That is one big scar that you have, so scar massage and desensitizing may be a thought!
