Driving is my nemisis. I have to drive an hour to work and back each day, plus several hours each day during work. (Social work type job)
I have to sit my seat straight up and rest/support my head on the backrest while I drive because I just can’t hold my head up that long. Isn’t that rediculous? It hurts so bad and causes horrible headaches each and every day. Plus, having to look around while I drive…the stopping and speeding up. ughh…I swear even a gradual speed up from a stop light feels like it gives me whip lash. Lol.
So I’m just wondering if you all have any tips or tricks to feel better while driving.
Hi Rebecca, if it’s feeling like its hard to hold your head up, it may be because your neck literally is struggling to do just that. I have experienced this. If you are having cranio cervical instability issues a neck brace/cervical collar may significantly cut down on the pain. You can find soft collars at he drug store or order a rigid collar on line. When it was suspected that my issues were CCI related my NS suggested I get a collar. The pain went from 8-10 to a 2 within one day. Also, I have luck with keeping my posture up when I put a little pillow behind my lower back when I’m sitting- it makes me sit straight up instead of slouching- this also helps CCI related headaches.
I’m sorry you are feeling so terrible
Jenn
I actually have to recline my seat a bit and use a neck pillow to hold my head at the correct angle.
