Breathing symptom

Hey everyone, I know all of you are not doctors but I was curious as to if you experienced the neck feeling like it was getting smaller? Like having trouble swallowing? I’m feeling alone in this and would love some advice and see if I’m the only one in this.

I am certainly not an expert in chiari, but this does sound like something you would want to get checked out by your doctor. Because I don’t know where the proper place to start would be, you might want to start with your GP, although going to an ENT if it is a swallowing issue may also be appropriate. You can also call your neurologist and ask.

Let us know how you make out. This sounds quite uncomfortable.

Hi I think I know what you mean. I have chiari and often how trouble swallowing and occasionally choke a little bit when eating, or just put of the blue. Definitely scary but I’ve been told by my Neurologist that it could be the weight of the low lying tonsils and cerebellum fluid that sits right above my herniated disc’s on my neck. I followed up with a Speech and swallow physician awhile back. Since I defer any surgery( just to nervous) I’ve chosen to be more mindful in positioning… so atleast now ik certain ways I move my head/ neck kind of trigger the swallowing issue and I just try to avoid it. Still happens but I’ve learned to always have water with me, take a little sip and not panic, it’s Def made a difference. I hope this helps!

Sorry about few typos but hope it made sense. Sometimes chiari symptoms make us feel like we’re losing our minds.. so I get it

I have had had so many problems swallowing, the last swallowing test I had it happened it not a real swallowing problem that they can see. The doctors freaked when they watched me having a problem and couldn’t see it happening. Just another crazy Chiari thing.
