Brainstem auditory evoked response test and hearing loss

Brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER), a test that measures brain activity in response to sound, helps to determine whether the brain stem is working correctly.

I found out from my hearing doctor, yesterday that Chiari could have caused my hearing loss from birth. They did over 10,000 dollar in test when I was 7 years old to try and find out what caused my hearing loss. They said nothing caused it.. My parents were confused.. They didn't do a MRI, so they wouldn't have picked up on the chiari.

They guessed and thought it was my middle ear not working, but now they think it is a senorineural problem with the brain stem. Maybe from the chiari pushing against it...

I also found out that this Brainstem auditory nerve test can determine Chiari.
Has anyone had this done?
The doctor also said if I had surgery I might get my hearing back. Fingers crossed.

I just had this test done yesterday at the WI chiari institute. From what I understand the test is for hearing problems and commonly to diagnose neuromas. It can also confirm a chiari diagnosis. I saw dr Heffez this afternoon. The appt went well, Heffez and staff are very personable and caring. Found that although my herniation is small (5 cm) I do have CDs blockage. Also have hyper mobility. I am to wear a neck brace for a couple of weeks to rule out neck problems as the cause of my symptoms, then if that doesn’t work ill have the surgery. I feel like it is all finally coming together… So relieved!!
